Camino de Santiago pilgrims who are extraordinary

From all throughout Europe, pilgrims have been traveling to Santiago de Compostela for centuries in a variety of modes, including bicycle, horseback, and foot. It’s a common adage on the Camino: “Walk your own Camino.” I had the great fortune to speak with these special pilgrims who did just that.

Oskar walked 5000 km across eight countries from his home in Poland; Paul crossed the Pyrenees and finished the French Camino in a wheelchair; Pienkes and his wife Lizzie demonstrated that age is only a state of mind when they finished their Camino; Stu walked 11 different Camino routes; Christian walked barefoot for more than three months; Jason ran more than a marathon a day on St James Way during his 24,000 km run around the world; and Pienkes and his wife Lizzie demonstrated that. Stu’s addiction to the Camino is a problem! He has walked all seven of the popular Camino routes and four lesser-traveled ones since his first Camino in 2005. He is still pursuing the Way of Saint James at the age of 48. In order to prepare for a lengthy Camino walk from the UK to Santiago in 2020, this inspirational Brit is presently recuperating from major surgery after a difficult battle with cancer. He is testing his strength by walking a number of shorter routes in the upcoming months.
