Dave Roberts chastised Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers following the Blue Jays’ defeat.

Following Sunday’s 5-4 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts vented his fury after Shohei Ohtani, the team’s designated hitter, blasted his 40th home run of the season. Toronto struck out 14 batters in a game when the Blue Jays gave up 10 hits, including two home runs, and 13 walks. Los Angeles then surrendered a lead in the eighth inning.

According to Kevin Baxter of The Los Angeles Times, Roberts was open about his frustration with his players following the defeat.

“This is annoying because I thought we couldn’t possibly lose this game today,” Roberts remarked. We repeatedly had them on the ropes. And it’s really annoying that we didn’t win. In his postgame news conference following the one-run defeat, Dave Roberts brought up Ohtani’s strikeout on a pitch outside the zone after the Dodgers gave up the game-winning run in the top of the ninth inning.

The last thought that crossed my mind was that he would strike out. That’s where we need to come up with one,” Roberts stated. “It is not possible for us to chase the ball down below.” Three innings prior, with Freeman at bat and two outs, Ohtani was thrown out while attempting to steal third.

Ohtani’s hitting streak reached a season-high nine games with two hits, including his 41st homer of the year. However, he committed some critical errors in the last moments of the game, where scoring a run may have changed the outcome.
