For the first time since entering Miami, Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill has not been named captain.

Prior to the NFL season beginning, the Miami Dolphins announced their six captains on Monday. Tyreek Hill wasn’t one of them for the first time in three years. After spending six seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, Hill was moved to the Dolphins in 2022. During his three seasons in Miami, he served as captain. However, since Hill stated that he wanted “out” in January, relations between him and the team appear to have deteriorated.

The Miami Dolphins named their six captains on Monday, ahead of the start of the NFL season. For the first time in three years, Tyreek Hill wasn’t one of them. Hill was traded to the Dolphins in 2022 after playing for the Kansas City Chiefs for six seasons. He was captain for Miami’s three seasons there. However, Hill’s relationship with the squad seems to have soured ever since he declared his desire to “out” in January.

Hill has spent the last few months retracting his January remarks: He apologised to Tagovailoa and the team by February, stating that he was “taking accountability” for his statements and that he wanted to “fully take it back.”

Hill said he wanted to leave Miami and join a more competitive team in the remarks, which were made righ7t after the Dolphins’ season-ending loss to the New York Jets.

Although he was “opening the door,” Hill never made a trade request, Dolphins general manager Chris Grier told reporters. Hill ultimately chose to remain with the organisation, and he is about to begin the second year of a three-year, $90 million contract. After claiming that his remarks were the result of “frustration,” the 31-year-old receiver has spent the last several months attempting to make amends with his squad. After his poor 2024 season, Hill stated in May that he was aiming for a 2,000-yard season and wanted to show his squad that he mend his relationship with the team, Tagovailoa told reporters in July.

“You have to mend that relationship after saying something like that. You don’t just say, ‘My bad.’…” According to Tagovailoa, “He is working on himself.” Hill has extended his pledge to attend team meetings more frequently: In early August, the receiver informed reporters that he was finally grasping the offensive plan and that he had begun taking notes for the first time in his career. Additionally, he stated that Tagovailoa’s remarks were “needed.”
