Lando Norris makes an unexpected statement about the Formula One title: “We’ll all be dead.”

Lando Norris has denied that he will have to be mean to Oscar Piastri in order to defeat the Australian and win his first Formula One drivers’ title. The British driver is staying realistic, claiming that none of it will matter in two centuries because “we’ll all be dead.” The McLaren teammates are engaged in a fierce race for the championship. Although it is not the first indication of an existential dilemma for the nine-time Grand Prix winner, it does underscore his conviction that he can defeat Piastri without trying to antagonize him something he would not relish.

The British driver is staying realistic, claiming that none of it will matter in two centuries because “we’ll all be dead.” The McLaren teammates are engaged in a fierce race for the championship. Although it is not the first indication of an existential dilemma for the nine-time Grand Prix winner, it does underscore his conviction that he can defeat Piastri without trying to antagonize him—something he would not relish. Speaking at the Hungaroring on Thursday, Norris outlined why he will not relieve the 24-year-old of any championship pressure, despite the fact that he won a tense crescendo to the Hungarian Grand Prix, reducing his F1 drivers’ standings deficit to only nine points at the summer break.

“I’m attempting to enjoy myself. I still care about it, which is why I occasionally become irritated, dissatisfied, and angry with myself. And I believe that demonstrates my intense concern for both winning and losing. However, that doesn’t mean I have to vent my frustration on Oscar. I simply have no interest in such matters.”

Although Norris elaborated on his thoughts on the championship bout and its overall significance, he insisted that losing to Piastri simply indicates that his teammate performed “better job” during the campaign. In Formula One, intra-team competitions for championship glory rarely end happily, but the British driver doesn’t think he has to use devious methods as a result. “Yes, he [Piastri] is the guy I want to beat more than anyone else,” he stated. However, if I don’t defeat him, it’s simply because he performed better.

“Just because someone did something a few years ago doesn’t mean you have to do it the same way. I’ll do it the way I think is best for me. Those things don’t actually matter to me.
