The Houston Rockets could make a deal for a superstar this offseason, and Cam Whitmore has been mentioned in several rumours. Whitmore has a lot of promise, but he may not make the roster next season. Whitmore is a gifted scorer, shooting 44.9% from the field and 35.7% from three over his two-year career. He is an athletic freak who can go to the rim and dunk over any opponent that stands in his way. The forward is 20 years old and has an average of 9.4 points. He is an explosive wing with good shooting ability. Even though he didn’t play much this season, he demonstrated his actual talent and what he may become.
Kevin Durant remains a name to watch if the Rockets decide to make a trade. Whitmore’s inconsistent minutes might make him part of a trade package with Phoenix Suns choices. This introduces a star scorer to Houston. Houston’s major weakness is its shooting. However, by dealing Whitmore, the team loses a very young forward who has the potential to be a great scorer in exchange for an ageing superstar who has suffered injuries.

The Rockets could find success by focussing on developing their young core. They feature a “Core 7” of young players, three of whom have the potential to be reliable scorers. Jalen Green, Reed Sheppard, and Whitmore have all shown signs of their scoring ability. Keeping this alongside Amen Thompson, Alperen Sengun, and Jabari Smith Jr., who is also a terrific shooter, is a better option than trading for someone who does not suit the young timetable.
This team just made the playoffs for the first time since the 2019-2020 season, and despite falling behind 3-1 to the Golden State Warriors, they rallied to win in seven games. Houston’s youthful roster’s future depends on its development. The Rockets have a lot of untapped talent on their roster, and if Ime Udoka can figure out how to precisely balance minutes, the team might be deadly in a few years.
