‘I was with George Harrison on his deathbed; the Beatles icon’s words changed me.’

Eric Idle, a comedy great, has opened out about his close connection with the late George Harrison. When the Monty Python performer and The Beatles icon met at a party in Los Angeles in the 1970s, they developed a close connection.

However, Eric grew up in Merseyside, and in an exclusive interview with the ECHO, he revealed that he believes he met the renowned artist when they were both toddlers. He remarked, “When I was about five, I hung out with someone named George on the Red Noses in New Brighton, and I often wondered if it was him because we got along so well when we met.”

“I felt like I already knew him, and we talked all night. He was fantastic and had a huge impact on my life.” The 82-year-old will pay tribute to his friendship with the All Things Must Pass writer in his new performance, Always Look on the Bright Side of Life, LIVE!, which will be performed at the Liverpool Empire on September 14.

The one-man show is advertised as “an evening of comedy, music, philosophy, and one fart joke,” and Eric explained to the ECHO that one song is dedicated to George. He stated, “There are a few singalongs. There are some touching tunes. I wrote a song for George since I really miss him. That’s very emotional because you see us on film. Eric became one of George’s best pals after they met in California. The comedian explained that their mutual understanding stemmed from their similar status in their respective organisations.
