Softball players from the county win the national fastpitch championship.

Although Newton County’s softball season is still a few weeks away, some of the county’s top teams are enhancing their trophy cabinets with additional hardware. The Alliance Nationals Tier III National Championship for Athletics Gold Tamborra/Freeman 18U was won on Sunday by four of Newton County’s top athletes. Some of the top prep softball players in the nation play for the fastpitch travel squad.

Donee Morain and Eva Davis are currently Eastside players on the team. Two 2025 grads, Savannah Frachiseur of Social Circle and Anslee Saunchegraw of Eastside, join the duo. Saunchegraw and Morain were both selected for the all-tournament squad. Davis, a pitcher and outfielder for the Lady Eagles, is the current 2024–25 All-Cov News MVP. She had four shoutouts and an undefeated record of 13-0 on the mound the previous season. At the plate she batted .426 and finished second for the team with 46 hits.

With an incredible.505 at the plate, Morain is the reigning 2024–25 All Cov News Slugger of the Year. In addition, she recorded seven home runs, 31 RBIs, and 51 hits. At the moment, she is dedicated to Georgia Tech. For her efforts in the 2024–25 season, Saunchegraw was selected to the first team All-Cov News and was named to the first team All-Region. She currently attends Piedmont University to play collegiate softball. Frachiseur received a 2024–25 All-Cov News first-team selection in addition to being selected a first-team All Region catcher. Since she committed to attend Kennesaw State for her college education, she will also remain in the state.
