Around this time last year, the Detroit Pistons were expecting to secure the first overall choice in the NBA Draft as a prize for an extraordinarily poor 14-68 season. After selecting Ron Holland with the fifth choice, the Pistons’ summer of dramatic changes resulted in a tripling of their victory total while losing their best pick. Making the playoffs meant handing over their first-round pick to the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Pistons’ earliest pick will now be in the second round of the 2025 NBA draft. In a recent mock draft created by Rookie Wire, the Pistons were expected to select one-time NCAA Champion Alex Condon from Florida at 37th overall.

The Australian-born post player just finished his second season with the Florida Gators. He played 36 games as a freshman last year, coming off the bench in all but one of them.
Condon played an average of 20 minutes per game, grabbing six rebounds and scoring eight points on 46% shooting from the field. This season, Condon started 35 of 37 games for the Gators. With a minor increase in playing time, the sophomore forward saw statistical improvement in every major area of his game. He averaged 11 points per game, shooting 49 percent from the field. Condon averaged two three-pointers a game and made 33 percent of his long-range attempts. He also had an average of eight rebounds, two assists, one block, and nearly one steal per game.

The Pistons’ second-round pick will be in the same range as last year. Following a trade with the Timberwolves, the Pistons obtained the 37th overall pick and selected Wake Forest’s Bobi Klintman. In this hypothetical scenario, Detroit acquires Condon with the 37th pick from the Toronto Raptors.
