NBA to Announce MVP Winner This Evening.

The NBA has kept the Most Valuable Player award announcement a mystery for several weeks. The wait is over: this season’s MVP will be announced tonight at 7 p.m. ET during the TNT telecast, NBA Communications tweeted. The announcement will come before Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, 26, is the clear favourite to win the award for the first time. In 76 games, he averaged a career-high 32.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.4 assists, 1.7 steals, and 1.0 blocks. This marks SGA’s seventh NBA season.

Nikola Jokic and Giannis Antetokounmpo are the remaining finalists. Jokic averaged a triple-double (29.6 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 10.2 assists) in his tenth season, appearing in 70 games. The Nuggets centre has won the award three out of the last four seasons. Antetokounmpo was voted MVP in both 2019 and 2020. In his 12th season, the Bucks forward averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists across 67 games. No guard has earned the award since 2018, when James Harden received it while playing for Houston.

NBA: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander vs. Nikola Jokic MVP announcement is finally approaching.

His outstanding second half propelled the Thunder to a series-opening victory,” The Athletic said on X, the former Twitter.

Gilgeous-Alexander demonstrated during the regular season that he was the most consistent and dominant player in the league, which not only showed up in his stats but also in what the Oklahoma City Thunder were able to accomplish. Without Gilgeous-Alexander, it’s difficult to imagine the Thunder being the top team in the Western Conference and making it this far into the playoffs.

Jokic enjoyed another spectacular season, averaging a triple-double, but the Denver Nuggets finished fourth in the West, 18 games behind the Thunder for first place. Despite the fact that the team’s record should not be a factor in determining MVP, some voters do. In the end, both players have a decent chance of earning the award, but Gilgeous-Alexander’s game has helped his team stay on top, and they are only a few wins away from reaching the NBA Finals. Though winning the MVP would be remarkable for Gilegous-Alexander, he has already stated that he would prefer to win a title.

At this point, it would not be surprising if he won both, as the Thunder are proving some of the critics wrong who predicted that their lack of playoff experience would catch up with them. So far, they appear to be managing the postseason pressure well.
