
This Friday, August 1, marks the beginning of South Carolina’s Tax-Free Weekend, which ends on Sunday, August 3. The tax-free holiday can result in significant discounts for individuals eager to remodel their houses and clothes and for parents stockpiling school supplies. The South Carolina Department of Revenue claims that during the state’s Tax Free Weekend, consumers have previously saved between $2 million and $3 million, and there are many bargains to be found this year. According to a Prosper Insights & Analytics and National Retail Federation study, families will spend roughly $1,000 on college students and close to $700 on elementary school children this year. This weekend, many of those back-to-school necessities are tax-free. There is no upper limit on the tax exemptions, which apply to both new and secondhand goods.
